ISSF sanctioned competitions in the next three years will give a big boost to Indian shooting.

The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) will host major ISSF (International Shooting Sport Federation) competition in the next three years, which will act as good preparation for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, NRAI president Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo said on Thursday. “With the LA Olympics as our main target, hosting at least one international event in the next three year will be a good opportunity for Indian shooters,” Deo added.
The Indian shooting contingent returned empty handed from the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games held in Japan in 2021. But the elite shooters bounced back at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Pistol shooter Manu Bhaker won two bronze medals, one each in individual 10m air pistol and mixed team event 10m air pistol.
Rifle shooter Swapnil Kusale won bronze in men’s 50m rifle three position.
The major ISSF event this year will be the Junior World Cup (Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun) in September. “The inaugural edition of the Shooting League of India (SLI) in November will be the second big event,” the NRAI president said. The Asian Rifle/Pistol Cup in 2026 and ISSF World Cup in 2027 will further give fillip to shooting sport in India. The 2028 ISSF Junior World Championship will give international exposure to promising shooters, the NRAI president added. “All the ISSF competitions will be incorporated in the NRAI annual competition calendar,” Deo said.
