Kenyan born American Army steeplechase runner got injured in 2023. After recovering he is back to racing. He clocked 2:10:47 on his marathon debut at the 2025 New York Marathon

Kenyan born 35 years old American distance runner Hillary Bor often trains with a group of Indian distance runners at Colorado Springs which is at an elevation of 5000 feet above sea level.
Last weekend two-time Olympian and national champion, Hillary Bor chased glory on the streets of New York as he made his debut at the New York Marathon. He clocked 2:10:47 to finish overall 12th in the field.
Miles away at Bengaluru, Hillary Bor’s training partner Avinash Sable is limping back to fitness. After a freak incident earlier this year at Monaco Diamond League, the Indian national record holder and Asian Games champion injured his knee during initial stages of the steeplechase as he fell at the water jump. Avinash Sable was sidelined due to injury and missed the 2025 Tokyo World Athletics Championships.
“He (Avinash) has started training and should be fit for the 2026 season,” a coach familiar with the development said.
Hillary Bor too broke his foot during the steeplechase event in 2023. After recovering, the versatile American distance runner has been competing over road racing.
Based out of Colorado Springs, Hillary Bor is a fierce competitor. On a scholarship to the USA, Hillary Bor represented Iowa State University to compete in NCAA competition between 2008 to 2010. The steeplechase runner joined the USA Army and represented America in two Olympic Games.
At the 2022 Eugene World Athletics Championships he competed in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase. He fought hard for a medal but eventually finished eighth.
India’s Avinash Sable was also in the same race. The Indian runner too couldn’t cope up with the tactical battle and finished overall 11th.
The packed 2026 domestic and international calendar will give Avinash Sable ample opportunity to showcase his potential again on the track.
