FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 Qualifiers: Can South Korean women’s hockey squad upset more fancied teams?

Top eight teams will vie for three qualification berths for the 2026 World Cup in Belgium and Netherlands in August.

South Korean women’s hockey team led by skipper Lee Yuri arrived in Hyderabad to compete for three World Cup qualification berths during March 8 to 14 FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 Qualifiers in Telangana.

The Korean women’s team won a bronze medal at the 1990 World Cup. Since then the team made it to the global competition but podium finish eluded the Asian nation.

Wales was another team that reached Hyderabad for the eight-nation tournament.

Wales looks prepared for the Hyderabad competition as they finished second at the 2025 Euro Hockey Championship II.

Korea is clubbed in Pool A with England, Italy and Austria. The Pool B consists of Wales, India, Scotland and Uruguay.

After the pool stage the top two teams from each group will advance to semifinals. The finalists and bronze medal winner will get an automatic berth for the World Cup.

Pool A: Austria, England, Italy, Korea

Pool B: India, Scotland, Uruguay, Wales.
