Wrangling between two key officials of Table Tennis Federation of India will certainly have far reaching consequences at the grassroots level

Wrangling between two key officials—president and secretary general—of Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) will certainly have far reaching consequences on the development of Olympic discipline at the grassroots level in the country. A couple of days after TTFI secretary general and former international Kamlesh Mehta was suspended for alleged “irregularities” by TTFI president Meghna Ahlawat, former plans to approach the court to seek justice.
“I intend to approach the Hon’ble Court as a last resort following my suspension as secretary general of the TTFI,” Mehta said in an email statement.
“As the manner in which this action was taken by the president of TTFI left no effective internal remedy and raised serious concerns about fairness, process and governance,” the statement said.
Mehta claimed that after elections of the office bearers held in December 2022, the functioning of TTFI has increasingly reflected a pattern of unilateral decision-making by the president.
Surprisingly, Mehta didn’t reveal internal differences earlier. Or lack of good governance. Two state units had emerged in Rajasthan. Recently, one of the Rajasthan state units was given affiliation to the parent body (TTFI).
All was not well with the Chandigarh table tennis body. The players protested against the long-time office bearer Harish Kumar. Kumar has stepped down and he still calls the shots.
After Mehta was suspended, he shot an email alleging lack of good governance within the TTFI.
