Aman Sehrawat and Neha Sangwan might miss the 2026 Asian Games if the Wrestling Federation of India doesn’t reduce the sentence.

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has taken action against Paris Olympic Games bronze medallist in men’s 57kg freestyle event, Aman Sehrawat, for failing to compete at the last month’s World Championships in Zagreb due to being overweight.
Sehrawat was 1.7kg overweight at the time of weighing-in for the men’s 57kg freestyle bout during the World Wrestling Championships held in Zagreb from September 13 to 21 in Croatia. “He (Sehrawat) appeared before the disciplinary panel of the WFI recently and put his point of view for being overweight at the time of weighing-in in Zagreb,” one of the officials of the WFI told Sportsbackstory.com. “The panel has suspended Sehrawat for one year.”
But the wrestler is likely to get reprieve before the national championships scheduled to be held in December, it is learnt. Otherwise, his preparation for the 2026 Asian Games will be hampered.
The WFI disciplinary panel including Sanjay Singh, president of WFI and senior coaches. The Indian star male wrestler and Olympic bronze medallist will not face two long years suspension as was the case of Neha Sangwan (57kg).
Neha too was overweight during the 2025 World U20 Championships and wasn’t able to compete in the global competition. She was later suspended by WFI for two years for indiscipline. Neha’s name was also struck off the list for the senior world championships held in September in Zagreb. Neha had an outstanding season in 2024 winning medals at the global competitions.
