Elections of Gymnastics Federation of India are due. GFI is also fighting a legal battle in court.

In a major development ahead of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in Scotland, the Gymnastics Federation of India (GFI) has asked Deepak Kabra, advisor to the president Sudhir Mittal, to quit office.

In an internal circular issued recently by GFI’s Chief Operating Officer, Kallol Mukherjee, to all the state affiliated units saying Deepak Kabra, who is also international judge, is no more associated with the GFI in any position or capacity whatsoever, with immediate effect. “This is to inform all State Associations and Units that Mr. Deepak Kabra, who was involved in advising the Gymnastics Federation of India on technical matters, is no longer associated with the Federation in any position or capacity whatsoever, with immediate effect,” the internal circular issued recently by Kallol Mukherjee said.

“Accordingly, Mr. Deepak Kabra is not authorized to represent the Gymnastics Federation of India (GFI), access its systems, communicate, or make any commitment on behalf of the Federation in any form or manner, at all,” the circular further said.

The circular didn’t mention whether Deepak Kabra, international judge, was getting any financial benefits for being an advisor to the president (Sudhir Mittal).

The GFI officials recently drew flak for charging exorbitant amounts to compete in the 2025 Asian Acrobatic Championships in Goa. During the continental competition in Goa, the GFI asked the competitors to deposit money (Rs 1.19 lakh) in a third party account. “All State Associations and Units are requested to bring this to the notice of their officials, coaches, judges, and all other concerned persons. This circular is issued by order of the Gymnastics Federation of India,” the internal circular said.
