Finalists of 2026 Asian Boxing Championships were to get automatic berths for Asian Games. The remaining slots will be filled through domestic trials in both men and women’s competition

Army’s national champion in men’s 55kg, Jadumani Singh, bowed out early in the Asian Boxing Championships in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
As per Boxing Federation of India (BFI) directives all finalists of the continental competition in Mongolia were to get automatic berths for the September 19 to October 4 Asian Games in Japan. The remaining slots were to be filled through domestic trials and assessment in both men and women’s groups.
Jadumani, who hails from Manipur had switched to 55kg from 50kg at the 2026 national boxing championships. In the domestic competition the promising Army boxer was successful in outplaying star-studded field, including Worlds medallist Amit Panghal to win gold in the 55kg.
After impressive domestic performance, Jadumani also excelled in his first international meet in Spain. It raised hope that he has settled well in his new weight category. However, at the Asian Boxing Championships in Mongolia he wasn’t at his best and bowed out early. He lost 2-3 to Japanese Rui Yamaguchi in preliminary round of men’s 55kg bout.
The Manipur boxer will now have to go through camp assessment that include trials to earn a place in the national team for the Asian Games in September. It will also open the way for other national campers to stake their claim in 55kg weight class.
