Two-time Olympic medalllist to make a comeback at the Doha Diamond League on Friday

Two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra said he is fit and looking forward to making his comeback at the Doha Diamond League on Friday. Chopra has not competed since the 2025 Tokyo World Championships where he finished eighth. He revealed he was pegged back by back injury during training before the worlds.
“It’s always good to make a comeback in competitions, especially in Doha. I had some injury last year before Tokyo World Championships in Japan. We worked a lot and I competed but I don’t think it was a good decision to compete in Tokyo because I knew I had a problem. It was the last competition of the year, so I thought of participating,” Chopra said in a press conference ahead.
“This is my first competition (Doha) of the season so I will try my best. I am fit… but let’s see how it goes in the competition,” he said.
Chopra says his plan is to participate in Commonwealth Games and Asian Games this year. Taking about CWG in Glasgow starting next month, Neeraj said it will be tough field and several of them have gone beyond 90m. While Athletics Federation of India has selected Chopra for the CWG, he will have to clear the selection mark of 82.61m.
Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage has thrown a massive 92.62m at the Rome Diamond League and has the current world lead. Reigning world champion Keshorn Walcott, Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, Anderson Peters, Julius Yego will make for a formidable line up at the CWG.
“CWG and Asian are part of my plans. CWG will be no less than Olympics or world Championships this time. There will be so many throwers with 90m,” Chopra said.
The Indian star javelin thrower had won gold at 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia. He had skipped 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games due to niggle.
