Indian Open Athletics Series: Sarvesh Anil Kushare outduels Aadarsh Ram, wins men’s high jump gold in Bengaluru

The domestic men’s high jump competition will be more exciting in coming weeks as Sarvesh Anil Kushare has a competitor in Aadarsh Ram.

After missing out on the men’s high jump title at the inaugural edition of the National Indoor Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar (Odisha), Army’s world championships finalist Sarvesh Anil Kushare, got his act together to win gold at the Indian Open Athletics Series in Bengaluru on Saturday.

Sarvesh Anil Kushare representing Maharashtra though won gold in the one-day first leg of the 16-part series of the Indian Open Athletics in Bengaluru, but has a competitor in Aadarsh Ram, winner of bronze at the 2026 Asian Indoor in China.

Both Sarvesh Anil Kushare and Aadarsh Ram representing Tamil Nadu had an identical height clearance of 2.23m. But Army’s high jumper who first cleared the bar to take home the gold while Tamil Nadu athlete settled for silver medal.

It was Sarvesh Anil Kushare’s season best (2.23m). His personal best of 2.28m was recorded at 2025 Tokyo World Athletics Championships in Japan.

Aadarsh Ram improves his personal best to 2.23m. His previous best was 2.21m.

The rivalry in men’s high jump will be exciting to watch in coming weeks. The exciting season will feature Glasgow Commonwealth Games from July and Asian Games from September.

Meanwhile, the country’s top athletes will be seen in action at the 29th National Senior Athletics Federation Competition in Ranchi starting May 22. The four-day domestic competition will be the final selection trials for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
