After a not so encouraging show by the women’s shooter in the 10m air pistol event, the men’s team were not impressive.
It was a disappointing show by Indian shooters in the men’s 10m air pistol event at the Aichi Nagoya Asian Games in Japan on Thursday.
Of the three Indian male pistol shooters in fray, none of them advanced to the eight-shooter final. Kamaljeet was the best Indian with a score of 580/600 in the qualification round. He finished ninth. Korea’s Suhyeon Hong shot 581 to finish eighth and last shooter to advance to the final.
Akash Bhardwaj shot 579/600 to finish 11th in qualification. Balakrishna Kedarling Uchaganve shot 568/600 to finish down the ladder at 35th position. Good scores in the qualification round determines team medals. At the 2022 edition of the Asian Games, Indian shooters won team gold in the 10m air pistol.
The men’s 10m air pistol final was exciting at Aichi Shooting Ranges. Uzbekistan’s 27 years old Vladimir Svechnikov won gold and set an Asian Games record of 244.3 points. The previous record of 240.7 was in the name of India’s Saurabh Chaudhary recorded at 2018 Asian Games.
China’s Kai Hu won silver with a score of 243.0 and compatriot Shuaihang Bu clinched bronze with a score of 222.1.
Going by current performance, Indian shooters will have to raise the bar to win a medal in the 10m air pistol mixed event.
