India’s promising boxer Parveen Hooda held her nerves to outplay Chen Nien-chin of Taiwan 3-2 to win the gold medal in the women’s 65kg at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan. India’s Ankush won gold in men’s 80kg by defeating Minseong Kim of South Korea 4-0.

Parveen Hooda is the second Indian female boxer to win gold at the Asian Games in Japan. Lovlina Borgohain won gold in women’s 75kg.

Indian female boxers have won two gold medals after a long gap of 12 years. Mary Kom won gold in 2014.

Parveen, 2022 World Championships bronze medallist beat Uzbekistan’s Navbakhor Khamidova 5-0 in the quarters and China’s Li Shu 5-0 in the semis to stay on course for a gold medal bout. India’s Ankush (80kg) won gold by defeating Minseong Kim of South Korea 4-0. Indian won three gold at the Asian Games.
