Interim Committee get extension till August; Boxing Federation of India elections on hold

Indian contingent claimed 11 medals at World Boxing Cup in Astana Kazakhstan.

Elections of office bearers of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) will be on hold as the Interim Committee, overseeing functioning of BFI and headed by Ajay Singh got extension from the World Boxing till August 31 this year, according to a press release of the Interim Committee on Monday.

World Boxing had appointed an Interim Committee in April this year to run day-to-day affairs of the BFI.

Meanwhile, the Indian boxing contingent win 11 medals, three of them gold at the World Boxing Cup in Astana, Kazakhstan. The competition that concluded July 6, Indian team also added five silver and three bronze medals to their kitty.

Sakshi (54kg), Jaismine (57kg) and Nupur (80+kg) were gold medallists in their respective weight categories.

Sakshi was at her attacking best against Yosline Perez of the USA to get a unanimous verdict from the judges in the women’s 54kg. While Jaismine kept her cool under pressure to get the better of Jucielen Cequeira Romeu of Brazil to gold in the women’s 57kg.

Nupur clinched India’s third gold as she overcame strong challenge from Kazakhstan’s Yeldana Talipova to earn verdict in her favour in the 80+kg.

Earlier, Meenakshi claimed silver in the 48kg final.

Jugnoo (men’s 85kg), Pooja Rani (women’s 80kg), Hitesh Gulia (men’s 70kg) and Abhinash Jamwal (men’s 65kg) also won silver.

Sanju (women’s 60kg), Nikhil Dubey (men’s 75kg) and Narender (men’s 90+ kg) claimed bronze medals.
