It will be big advantage to Indian shooters as Asian championships and World Cup having Olympic Games quota places will be held on the Indian soil

India will host two 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games qualification competitions on Indian soil next year, says Pawan Kumar Singh, secretary general National Rifle Association of India (NRAI). “The NRAI has been allotted 2027 Asian championships and the World Cup. Both the international events offer Olympic Games quota places,” NRAI secretary general told Sportsbackstory.com. “It will be a big advantage to the Indian shooters to earn berths for the Olympic Games. The Asian meet will offer eight quota places while the ISSF World Cup has 12 quota places.”
The 2028 Olympic Games qualification system will start this year at ISSF (International Shooting Sport Federation) 2026 World Championships in rifle/pistol/shotgun to be held from November 1 to 15 in Doha, Qatar.
Meanwhile the 2026 edition of the Asian Championships that has attracted more than 300 shooters will commence here at Dr Karni Singh Shooting Ranges from Wednesday. The Indian shooters will look forward to starting their Asian Championships on a positive note. The continental competition in rifle and pistol will be held here at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Ranges.
A total of 311 athletes from across 20 countries, including hosts India will be seen in action in the junior and senior categories. Overall 30 medals are in fray. Apart from the senior and junior group, competition in the youth category will also be held.
India has the largest squad of 118 athletes. Kazakhstan will be represented by 35 athletes. Regional powerhouses Korea, Iran and Japan have also fielded strong squads. Shooters from Chinese Taipei, Vietnam and Hong Kong are also expected to put in good performances.
“This is a crucial year for Indian shooting. We have Asian Games and the World Championships. The global competition is a qualifying event for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games,” NRAI secretary general added.
Tuesday will be official pre-event training. The opening day competition on Wednesday will be 10m air pistol competition in all four groups, including men and women’s.
