But it was Ancy Sojan who walked away with gold on the given day. Shaili Singh won silver on her comeback after a brief hiatus due to injury.
Ancy Sojan representing Reliance opened her account with a jump of 6.54m, which eventually fetched her gold. She had a series of 6.48m, 6.47m, 6.48m and 6,50m. Her last attempt was no mark.
On the other hand, Shaili Singh representing Anju Bobby George Academy got her rhythm right in her first attempt to earn a silver (6.52m). Thereafter she lost her momentum. She had no mark in the next four attempts and her last jump was 4.99m. The competition in Bengaluru was Shaili Singh first competition of the season.
Moumita Mondal representing Reliance was third with a jump of 6.37m.
Promising long jumper Mubassina Mohammed of Lakshadweep finished fourth with a jump of 6.36m.
Meanwhile, the country’s top athletes will be seen in action at the 29th National Senior Athletics Federation Competition in Ranchi starting May 22. The four-day domestic competition will be the final selection trials for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
