Two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen has lost to Sakshi in the trials for Indian team for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and Japan Asian Games.

Nikhat went down 1-4 to Sakshi in 51kg semifinals. Sakshi had changed her weight class from 54kg to 51kg with an eye on the two major championships of this year.

Sakshi will have a tough fight in the final where she will face Minakshi Hooda, who has moved up a weight from 48kg. Minakshi is reigning world champion in 48kg.

Nikhat has not been in best of form in recent times. She won a bronze medal at the Asian Championships and lost to Chinese Olympic champion Wu Yu in the semifinals.

The selection criteria of the Indian boxing teams for Asian Games and Commonwealth Games were revised after intervention of Sports Authority of India (SAI).

SAI did not approve of the assessment system that has been in place in last few years. Several boxers had raised concerns about the transparency of the selection process in the camp. BFI (Boxing Federation of India) therefore dropped the scoring mechanism and based it on performance in trials.
