India’s promising 17 years old badminton player Tanvi Sharma joins Super 300 club, enters her name in record books.
India’s 17 years old badminton player Tanvi Sharma will be one to watch in the buildup to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. She is the latest Indian player to join the Super 300 club. Last week the youngster stamped her authority at Taipei Open defeating Vietnam’s sixth seed Nguyen Thuy Linh 21-16, 21-16 to win the women’s singles final.
She is also the youngest Indian player to win the BWF World Tour Super 300 title. Way back Saina Nehwal won the Taipei Open title in 2008.
In the final match, Tanvi Sharma quickly asserted her dominance and raced to a 10-2 lead. Nguyen narrowed the gap to 10-8, but the Indian comfortably won the first game 21-16.
The Indian shuttler took time to settle down in the second game. After trailing in the initial stages of an exciting final, she bounced back to seal the game 21-16 and wrap up the summit clash in just 36 minutes.
“I’m really happy to win the Taipei Open title,” says the jubilant Indian shuttler.
She is among the fourth Indian to have won the women’s singles Super 300. Olympic bronze medallist Saina Nehwal, and two-time Olympic Games medallist PV Sindhu are other two Indian players to have excelled in Super 300 or higher ranked competitions. India’s Devika Sihag is the fourth.
