A nine-member Nepal boxing team, including two coaches are practising at Sports Authority of India (SAI) NCOE in Guwahati, Assam, to prepare for upcoming Asian Games in Japan. The Nepal team arrived last month and will leave for Japan on September 15.

In a significant boost to India-Nepal sporting ties, the Sports Authority of India’s (SAI) National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) in Guwahati is hosting the Nepal Boxing Team for an extended high-performance training camp ahead of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, providing the neighbouring country’s athletes with access to India’s elite sporting ecosystem in the final phase of their preparations, SAI said in a statement.

“Training at SAI NCOE Guwahati has been a great experience for us. The facilities, coaching and quality of sparring have helped us improve technically,” Nepal’s boxer Ramisha Shrestha said.

“The Nepal Boxing Team is undergoing structured training and coaching at SAI NCOE Guwahati. Sporting exchanges such as this help strengthen the bonds between India and Nepal and promote friendship,” said DK Mittal, Executive Director, SAI Regional Centre Guwahati.
