Apart from Asian Games bound team, those competing in the World Judo Championships in Baku will also get international exposure.
Asian Games bound national judo team, including India’s Commonwealth Games champion in women’s below 48kg, Asmita Dey, will be attending a national camp in Japan ahead of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games starting September 19. The sports ministry, according to Mukesh Kumar, president, Judo Federation of India, has approved pre-Asian Games training camp at Tsukuba University in Japan from September 5 to October 2 for the Indian judo team.
Asmita Dey (below 48kg), Yamini Mourya (below 57kg) and Inunganbi Takhellambam (below 70kg) will represent India at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
The ministry has also approved Pre-World Judo Championships 2026 training camp for senior national squad in Japan. The World Judo Championships 2026 will commence from October 4 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
“The ministry has also approved training camp for those players who will compete at the Worlds in Baku,” the JFI president said.
The Indian squad for Worlds includes Glasgow Commonwealth Games champion in men’s below 60kg, Harsh Singh. He is the only Indian male judo player to have achieved the world ranking of below 100, a norm to compete in the global competition.
