India’s Asian Games bound artistic gymnast Pranati Nayak has recovered from injury and following a normal practice routine, claims national gymnastics coach Ashok Mishra. “She has recovered from injury and doing training,” Mishra told Sportsbackstory.com. Pranati Nayak is the only gymnast cleared by the Sports Ministry to compete at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games starting September 19. What is Pranati Nayak’s medal chances at the Asian Games? The 31-years-old international artistic gymnast from West Bengal switched to Odisha state for greener pastures. Despite better facilities she hasn’t performed up to her potential in recent times. She is currently training at Bhubaneswar’s high-performance centre, but wasn’t impressive at the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games held last month in Scotland. “It was token participation for Pranati in Glasgow as she was on the injured list,” a national coach told Sportsbackstory.com. “She (Pranati) should have skipped CWG to prepare for the Asian Games.”
Pranati has won bronze medals in vault at the Asian championships in 2019, 2022 and 2025. But her performance at the 2026 Asian Championships wasn’t encouraging. The gymnast from West Bengal is the second Indian to represent the country at the Olympics. She got a continental quota at 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games held in 2021. Dipa Karmakar was first Indian to represent the country at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games and finished a creditable fourth in women’s vault.
