Wrangling within Hockey India has surfaced this weekend. In a major off the field development, Hockey India long time Director General RK Srivastava has been stripped of his powers, pending inquiry. With the Asian Games starting next week in Japan, off the field issues could impact performance of the national teams.

Suspension of RK Srivastava comes a couple of days after IOA (Indian Olympic Association) set up a four-member panel to probe allegations levelled by former Indian women’s hockey team skipper Asunta Lakra against top Hockey India official.

Dilip Tirkey, President, Hockey India, has suspended long time Director General RK Srivastava on the grounds of failing to perform his duties. Srivastava has been served legal notice and stripped of his powers. A show cause notice has been issued and he has four weeks to respond.

“In the interest of maintaining discipline, accountability and smooth functioning of Hockey India, we hereby inform you that with immediate effect, all your powers as director general of Hockey India cease and you shall not exercise any authority or act on behalf of Hockey India pending further decision in accordance with the Hockey India bye laws,” the legal notice issued to Srivastava stated.

As per legal notice there are more than half-a-dozen allegations against Srivastava, including travelling to FIH World Cup 2026 jointly organised by Netherlands and Belgium, without prior approval of the competent authority.
