India’s star long jumper Shaili Singh on her debut in women’s triple jump settled for the bronze medal.

Tamil Nadu’s International triple jumper Asha Ilango ended her 2026 season on a high, breaking a decade old record on her way to winning gold on the opening day of 65th National Open Athletics Championships here at New Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Thursday.
Asha missed a bronze medal on countdown at the just concluded Aichi Nagoya Asian Games, but was satisfied with breaking the record in the season ending domestic meet here in New Delhi on Thursday. Asha’s gold winning performance of 13.89m was better than Mayooka Johny’s record of 13.78m
“I am happy to win gold with a meet record,” Asha said after winning the gold.
The season ending competition also saw long jump specialist Shaili Singh making her debut in triple jump. She settled for the bronze medal. Shaili Singh also missed out on a medal, finishing fourth, at the Asian Games 2026.
