FIH Hockey Women’s Nations Cup 2026: India beat Japan 2-1, advance to semi-final

Captain Salima Tete and Lalremsiami scored one goal each to post 2-1 win over Japan in the second successive win in Pool A.

Indian women’s hockey team defeated Japan 2-1 in their second Pool A match of the FIH Hockey Women’s Nations Cup New Zealand 2026 at the North Harbour National Hockey Centre in Auckland on Tuesday. With this win the Indian team advanced to semi-finals, having won both their pool matches.

Indian skipper and ‘Player of the Match’ Salima Tete (33′) and Lalremsiami (49′) netted one goal each for India while Hiramitsu Ai (35′) was the lone goal scorer for Japan.

It was also a memorable game for midfielder Jyoti who marked her 100th senior international appearance.

With Tuesday’s win India topped Pool A with six points. Earlier in the Pool match India beat USA 3-2. India will next face Uruguay in their last Pool A match of the tournament on June 18. Japan and the USA will face-off for the second semi-final spot from Pool A.
