The Indian men’s hockey team scored an exciting 3-2 win over the Netherlands in their FIH Pro League match at Hockey Club Rotterdam on Sunday. Jugraj Singh (18’), Abhishek (27’) and Rajinder Singh (56’) were goal scorers for the Indian side. Stand-in captain Hardik Singh was named Player of the Match for his exceptional leadership and midfield display.
The Netherlands started the match at a fast pace but weren’t able to breach strong Indian defence. India was awarded a penalty corner and Jugraj Singh (18’) made no mistake. The Netherlands responded instantly, equalising through a penalty corner goal by Pepijn van der Heijden (19’).
After 1-all, it took the Indian side nearly eight minutes to move the scoreboard in their favour (2-1) through Abhishek. The final quarter the Netherlands pushed hard for an equaliser, but were error prone inside the circle.
India consolidated the lead through Rajinder Singh 3-1 in the 56th minute. Down to 10 men, the Netherlands won three consecutive penalty corners in the 58th minute, but failed to convert them. But a minute later Koen Bijen made it 2-3 for the Netherlands.
