
The national women’s team finished second while the men’s side was third in the Asian U20 wrestling meet in Thailand. Indian team overall won 20 medals.
The Indian women’s wrestling squad collected as many as 184 points to finish second behind China (189 points) at the Asian U20 Wrestling Championships that concluded July 5 in Pattaya, Thailand. Wrestling powerhouse, Japan, finished third with 142 points.
The men’s freestyle team finished third overall with 152 points behind Kazakhstan (170 points) and Iran (164 points). Overall the Indian contingent won 20 medals, four of them gold. India also won seven silver and nine bronze medals. The competition was conducted in men’s freestyle, Greco Roman and women’s freestyle.
Of the four gold medals, Parveen (50kg), Muskan (53kg), and Kajal (76kg) were successful in winning three gold medals in the women’s category.
Manya Rajput (57kg), Savita (62kg), and Manisha (72kg) settled for silver medals in their respective weight groups in the women’s section.
Kajal (55kg), Komal (59kg) and Mansi Lather (65kg) added three bronze medals to the women’s tally.
Sumit Kumar Laxman Bharaskar (70k) was the only gold medal winner in the men’s freestyle. Pushp (61kg), Saurabh Yadav (79kg), and Ronak (125kg) won silver in their respective weight division.
Rohit (57kg), Adarsh Yuvraj Patil (74kg), and Lacky (97kg) settled for bronze medals in their respective weight.
The Indian team failed to earn a gold medal in the Greco-Roman. Akshay Rana was the most successful wrestler in Greco Roman. He won a silver medal in the 97kg category.
Neeraj Patel (55kg), Anuj (67kg), and Dheeraj Kumar Malik (67kg) won bronze medals to swell the Indian medal tally.
