India’s fastest junior male sprinter Abhay Singh sets his eyes firmly on Asian U20 Athletics Championships

After emerging fastest male sprinter of the junior meet in Karnataka, Abhay Singh went on to win gold in 200m.

Sprinter Abhay Singh representing Reliance exhibited his potential during the three-day 24th National Junior (U20) Athletics Federation Competition held at Tumkur’s Mahatma Gandhi Stadium in Karnataka.

He has achieved qualification time in the men’s 100m and 200m for the upcoming Asian U20 meet in Hong Kong. The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) will shortly announce the national junior team.

After emerging fastest male sprinter of the junior meet, Abhay Singh went on to win gold in 200m.

In both 100m/200m events he set meet records. He also improved junior national record in the 200m, setting a good rhythm for the upcoming Asian U20 Athletics Championships starting May 28 in Hong Kong.

In the men’s 100m dash his winning time of 10.41 seconds was better than Asian junior qualification time of 10.46 seconds and meet record of 10.47 seconds set by Gurindervir Singh in 2018.

Abhay Singh continued to dominate 200m on the final day of the junior meet, setting national as well as meet records. His gold winning time of 20.82 seconds was better than the national record of 21.02 seconds set by N Srinivas in 2021. The meet record of 21.02 seconds also stands in the name of N Srinivas.

Abhay Singh will be one to watch during Asian U20 Athletics Championships and World Athletics U20 Championships in August in Eugene, USA.
