Former world champion PV Sindhu beat home favourite Akane Yamaguchi 21-17, 21-17 to win Japan Open women’s singles title on Sunday in Tokyo. It was her first Super 750 title of this season and first major title since winning the 2024 Syed Modi International tournament.
“I was really working hard on myself and kept believing that I could do it,” she said after the Japan Open victory.
The title is Sindhu’s first BWF World Tour title outside India since the Singapore Open in 2022.

On her way to the title, Sindhu advanced to the semifinals after Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara withdrew before their quarterfinal. The win in Japan will add to PV Sindhu’s confidence ahead of BWF World Championships New Delhi 2026.
