The domestic track and field calendar has been rescheduled, says Bahadur Singh Sagoo, president of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI).

“The Indian Athletics Series has been rescheduled keeping in mind the promising athletes who weren’t able to make cut for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and Asian Games teams,” the AFI president said on Saturday. The Glasgow Commonwealth Games will start July 23 in Scotland. The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games will he held in Japan from September 19. “The venues of the competition that have been rescheduled will remain the same,” he added.

After the revised schedule, the 13-leg of the Indian Athletics Series will now be held on August 18. The earlier date was August 14. While the 14-leg of the Indian Athletics Series has been rescheduled by nine days from August 16 to August 25. The 15-leg of the domestic series has been shifted to September 2. It was earlier scheduled for August 29.

The final-leg of the Indian Athletics Series, according to the AFI president, is by invitation. The athletes will be invited as per their ranking in the respective events. “The final of the Indian Athletics Series will be held on September 10 and not September 12,” says the AFI president. “All Japan Asian Games bound athletes will also compete in the final-leg of the series.”

The Indian Athletics Series, says the AFI president, received an overwhelming response in the past as it was a good opportunity for athletes to compete in their own backyard.

The major domestic track and field—the 65th National Inter State Senior Athletics Championships was held between June 24 to 28 in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.  A group of Indian athletes left for Europe on Saturday as part of their preparation for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games starting July 23 in Scotland. The second batch will leave early next week, says Sagoo.
