The Indian women’s hockey team played their hearts out in their opening Pool D match against formidable China of the FIH World Cup in Netherlands on Sunday. A 2-all score gave India one point. India’s opening goal scorer Navneet Kaur was excited to have played a draw against China. “It was a good match. We tried our best to gain the upper hand in the second half, but weren’t successful,” she said in a post-match interaction with FIH. “We will do better in the next match.”
Navneet Kaur scored the opening goal for India in the first quarter. However, China came back to level the score. India gained upper hand again in the second quarter 2-1 but weren’t able to sustain their efforts as China levelled the score 2-all in the third quarter. The last quarter was more exciting but the winning goal eluded the Indian team.
In another Pool D match, England scored a 4-0 win against South Africa to top the table with three points. China and India have one point each. South Africa is yet to open their account. India next play South Africa and look forward to an outright win.
