Indian rifle shooters dominated junior women’s 10m air rifle event

Olympian Elavenil Valarivan held off a strong challenge from Japan’s Misaki Nobata to clinch gold in the women’s 10m air rifle event at the Asian Rifle/Pistol Championship being held here at New Delhi’s Dr Karni Singh Shooting Ranges on Saturday.

Indian continued their dominance in the championship with ten gold medals on day four to enhance medal tally to 43 medals, including 27 gold, 10 silver and eight bronze.

Shambhavi Kshirsagar further stamped the Indian authority at the continental level by setting record in Asian Junior Finals enroute to win gold.

Experienced rifle shooter Meghana Sajjanar added bronze medal to Indian medal tally as she finished third in the women’s 10m air rifle.

Indian junior women’s shooter dominated as Manyata Singh, Aneesha Sharma and Shambhavi finished 1-2-3 in the 10m air rifle junior category.

India started the day sweeping the podium in the 50m men’s pistol event with former 10m air pistol World No 1, Saurabh Chaudhary winning the gold followed by Kamaljeet Chaudhary and current World Champion Ravinder Singh winning silver and bronze, respectively. Yogesh Kumar won gold in the junior category of the 50m pistol event.

Ojasvi Thakur ensured India win all gold medals on offer on Saturday, winning gold in the youth category. Sri Lanka’s Umaya Ovitigala Withanage won silver while Yasmin Figila Achadiat won the bronze. Ojasvi teamed up with Anvii Vikram Rathod and Hrudya Shri Kondur to win the team gold also with a score of 1890.6
