Asian Boxing Championships 2026: Indian boxing team finished overall second with five gold medals

Indian team won 16 medals, five of them gold to finish second behind Kazakhstan.

India’s boxing contingent finished second on the table with 16 medals, five of them golds at the Asian Boxing Championships that concluded Friday in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

Kazakhstan topped the tally with six gold medals.

The Indian women’s team won ten medals, including four gold, two silver, and four bronze.

On the concluding day India’s Vishvanath Suresh clinched gold in the men’s 50 kg category by defeating Japan’s Daichi Iwai by a dominant 5:0 margin.  Sachin (60kg) added silver to the medal tally.

Vishvanath’s rapid rise has been impressive. Having emerged through the national circuit with consistent performances, he has quickly established himself on the international stage. His campaign in Ulaanbaatar was particularly impressive underlining his temperament and ability to deliver against top opposition.
“This has been a remarkable campaign for Indian boxing. The women’s team topped the medal charts with four gold medals. Our men’s team was also impressive,” Ajay Singh, president of Boxing Federation of India (BFI) said of the Indian team finishing overall second.

Minakshi (48kg), Preeti (54kg), Priya (60kg), and Arundhati (70kg) were winners of gold medals in their respective weight categories.
