Despite home advantage, the Netherlands women’s hockey team settled for the silver medal. Belgium won bronze.

Argentina played 1-all in regulation time against dominant Netherlands and scored 3-1 in shootout to win the FIH World Cup for the first time in 16 years in Amstelveen. Belgium beat Australia 1-0 to win bronze.

It was Argentina’s challenging task in women’s hockey – taking on the three-time defending champions, the Netherlands, on their home soil.  

The Netherlands took a 1-0 lead through Yibbi Jansen at the break. She was also the highest goal scorer with eight goals in the tournament.

Argentinian goalkeeper Cristina Cosentino was named as Player of the Match. “Holland is a really tough opponent, and we knew it was going to be like that. So, it was like fight each ball and the goal will come, and then just have fun in the shootout,” Cristina Cosentino told FIH in the post-match interaction.
