The national women’s hockey squad will play two practice matches against Germany in Frankfurt before the prestigious FIH World Cup in Amstelveen, Netherlands. The global hockey tournament will commence August 15. The Indian team, according to Hockey India, boarded the flight to Germany on Wednesday.
The Indian team will play their first match on July 31 and second on August 1 in Frankfurt. After two friendly matches in Germany, the Indian team will be training in the Netherlands. The international exposure will be an advantage ahead of the World Cup. India will begin its campaign against China on 16 August, followed by matches against South Africa and England in Pool D.
“Facing China in our opening game will be an important test, and we want to start the tournament on a positive note,” says Indian skipper Salima Tete.
