Good infrastructure and grassroots development programme has hugely contributed to the growth of the hockey in Jharkhand

Hockey Jharkhand successfully retained the title at the 16th Hockey India Sub Junior Women National Championship 2026 held in Ranchi, Jharkhand.
Jharkhand team had also won gold in 2024 edition of the sub-junior competition.
Good infrastructure and grassroots development programmes have hugely contributed to the growth of hockey in the state. Three successive sub-junior women’s titles at the national level hints of an excellent ecosystem at the grassroots level.
Jharkhand’s junior women’s team has collected as many as 14 medals, including five gold. The sub junior women’s team has claimed 12 medals for them gold including three successive wins at the national level.
Simdega district in Jharkhand has played a pivotal role in strengthening the state team. As many as six players were in the state team that won the 2026 national title.
From 2016 to 2026, Simdega district has consistently produced talented players at junior and senior level. Indian captain Salima Tete is also from Simdega.
Jharkhand also has an impressive record winning eight medals including one gold, one silver and six bronze medals in the senior women National Championships. Jharkhand also won the 2025 title.
