20th Asian Games 2026: Indian contingent ready to make a big impression at the continental games in Japan

Indian contingent main goal this time will be to improve overall performance. India with 106 medals finished fourth at the previous edition of the 2022 Asian Games in China.

Japan’s Asian Games bound Indian contingent was given a warm send off on Tuesday by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and the Sports Ministry in New Delhi. The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games will commence from September 19 in Japan.

Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports; PT Usha, President, Indian Olympic Association along with other officials and athletes were present on the occasion.

“I have complete faith that our contingent will perform well at the Asian Games and increase the pride of the country,” said the Sports Minister.

PT Usha, President, Indian Olympic Association, said: “Go out there, enjoy the competition, and give everything you have.”

At the 20th Asian Games in Japan, the Indian contingent will compete in more than 30 disciplines. At the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, the Indian team finished fourth with a total medal tally of 106, including 28 gold medals. India also won 38 silver and 40 bronze medals. It was the first time at the continental games in 2022, India’s medal tally surpassed 100.
