On the directive of the Sports Ministry, the Indian Olympic Association of India (IOA) set up an independent four-member panel to probe allegations against Hockey India official.
The IOA (Indian Olympic Association) set up a four-member panel headed by Justice Deepa Sharma (Retd) to probe allegations made by former Indian women hockey team skipper Asunta Lakra against top Hockey India official. The development comes ahead of the 20th Asian Games starting September 19 in Japan. The Indian women’s hockey team will be looking ahead to win the title.
Former international athlete Vandana Rao, former Indian women hockey team skipper Mamta Kharb and lawyer Sitwat Nabi are the other members of the panel set up by IOA.
“The committee shall function independently and impartially. Hockey India will have to bear the expenses of the members of the panel, including boarding and lodging and travel to probe allegations made by the former Indian women’s hockey team skipper,” says IOA in a communication to Hockey India.
“The Hockey India is also requested to extend full cooperation to the committee to ensure that all relevant records, documents, information as may be required are made available to the committee,” IOA said in a letter to Hockey India.
Earlier in July Hockey India, President Dilip Tirkey, requested the Sports Ministry to set up an independent panel to inquiry the allegations made by Asunta Lakra against top Hockey India official. On the directive of the Sports Ministry the IOA set up a four-member independent panel on Monday.
